Twitter Marketing Tips for Your Online Business

Article by Alexa Mei

Twitter has been around for awhile but has now reached the masses. Twitter is synonymous with celebrities, and we all know that once something become popular with the stars then it also becomes popular with everyone else. Just like any other traffic source, internet marketers learned to use Twitter to bring more customers into their business and make more money. This article will focus in on some techniques that you can use to do Twitter marketing the right way.

One of the biggest Twitter marketing tip is not even a marketing tip, and that is to be helpful.

You don’t have to blast ten monetized links a day, in fact, you will sell more by providing useful information and communicating with your followers before you try to sell to them. Like all social networks, people turn to Twitter to meet and chat with other people who are similar to themselves. Focus on communication and your followers will stay with you for the long haul. If your style is hard selling, then you need to learn to tune it down before you begin your Twitter marketing. When making recommendations you have to be aware that your followers also expect you to at least have a relationship built with them already. People will resent you once you come off as a salesman. Twitter has been bombarded by spammers so the followers really crack down on them. If you haven’t built a basic relationship with the people you are tweeting then don’t waste their time. This is where helping people out comes into play, once you help someone, you have taken the first step to forming a connection. If you want to make some commissions while helping others then that is fine, just answer their questions the best you can and provide them with an affiliate link to a product that addresses their concerns. By approaching indirectly you will have far more success than those taking a more direct approach. Don’t go into Twitter spamming, instead, look at it as a place where you can build an ongoing relationship with thousands of prospective customers. Marketing on Twitter doesn’t have to be difficult, unless you decide to focus on scammy methods that don’t work.

If you want to take a lot on Twitter then you must give a lot. You can give back as much as you want, but at the same time you can help out others who are trying to promote something. For instance, if you see a good article that you think will be helpful to your followers, then go ahead and re-tweet it. By doing this you not only give your followers some valuable information but at the same time create a strong relationship with the other marketers. You may be surprised when you land a joint venture by doing this. Also, to return the “favor,” others will blast a tweet that contains your message to their group. So it’s almost like helping each other out with the promotion.

Your follower ratio is something else you’ll want to be careful about. You will always want to go for good followers rather than lots of followers. There are lots of people who brag about having lots of followers but if these followers aren’t online regularly, they’re useless. That’s why you want to make sure you focus on your followers as well as who you’re following. Your entire aim with Twitter is to expand your business by solidifying your bond with people. The stronger you can make the relationships, the better Twitter will do for your business. Apart from that, getting targeted Twitter followers and following the right people isn’t really difficult. It only takes interacting with people and being hip to what’s current. You have to conscious of current events.

With Twitter, you can build a brand, customer loyalty, and get lots of free visitors, what else could you ask for?

Byron Gordon, SEO-PR, interviews Brad Kleinman, Director of Education, Online Marketing Connect, on the need for businesses to create a content and social media marketing strategy. Brad says without content, it’s not possible for a business to have a social media strategy. Places to start include by using Twitter search, RSS feeds, Google alerts, tracking your customer’s blogs, developing how-to articles. Brad goes on to discuss the significance of Facebook and why businesses whose customers use application must have a presence on it as well. Businesses can develop their own pages targeted towards their specific audience. Brad concludes by talking about the significance of KPIs, or key performance indicators, which help businesses determine how effective their content and social media marketing strategies are. Brad says most companies are just looking at the amount of traffic that comes to their site from their various social media marketing efforts. But Brad says businesses must also look at the different types of conversion metrics to help determine which of their social media marketing efforts (using apps such as YouTube, Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter) are bearing fruit.
